Bastia is located in the Lunigiana region of Northern Tuscany. The nearest airport,being Pisa,is just 75 minutes away,and the motorway is just 20 minutes away.
Bastia is a small ,fortified, hilltop hamlet,with its huge ,Medieval castle commanding over the valley below.
Surrounded by chestnut forests ,vineyards and terraces ,and panoramic views across the valleys to the Apuan mountains. There are no shops or cafe's within the village,but a grocery van call's a couple of times a week for anything you may need.Also,in the Summer,an ice cream van , from Licciana pops by ,with the best ice cream in the town.
Licciana Nardi ( Den of Heroes ) , about 2 miles away ,down the mountain, is the neighbouring small town with shops, bars and restaurants. Slightly further, about 15 minutes, is the large town of Aulla with many supermarkets and shops.There is a large market on Saturdays.
The area around Bastia has many small villages and towns with great restaurants, bars and village shops with wonderful local produce. The food and wine's are excellent and the local people are genuine ,kind and friendly.
If you want to feel like you've stepped back in time,then Bastia is the place to be.

Bastia is easy to get to from at least 3 main airports in the area, Pisa - 1 hour drive, Genoa - 1 hour 15 minutes drive, Parma - 1 hour drive. In addition, if you don't mind travelling a little further, it is about 2 1/2 hours from Milan or Bologna
